Bringing Fossils To Life: An Introduction To Paleobiology
Publisher: McGraw-Hill Science | ISBN: 0073661708 | edition 2004 | PDF | 483 pages | 19,4 mb

This is the first text to combine both paleontology and paleobiology. Traditional textbooks treat these separately, despite the recent trend to combine them in teaching. It bridges the gap between purely theoretical paleobiology and purely descriptive invertebrate paleontology books. The text is targeted at undergraduate geology and biology majors, with the emphasis on organisms, rather than dead objects to be described and catalogued. Current ideas from modern biology, ecology, population genetics, and many other concepts will be applied to the study of the fossil record.

Animal Life Encyclopedia: Evolution, 4 Edition

Dr. Michael Hutchins, "Animal Life Encyclopedia: Evolution, 4 Edition"
G.le | 2011 | ISBN: 1414486693 | 371 pages | PDF | 22,2 MB

Animal Life Encyclopedia is a 17-volume set, covering the entire animal kingdom, from protozoa to mammals.
Originally edited by the famous Frankfurt Zoo director and conservationist, Bernhard Grzimek, and translated into English in the early 1970s, the first English edition, consisting of 11 volumes, was published by Van Nostrand Reinhold in both England and the United States. That version was very popular, but after 30 years the series was in urgent need of updating. During that time, thousands of biologists, working in both the field and laboratory, had generated a tremendous amount of new information covering a wide range of species.
Recognizing an urgent need to include the new information, the entire collection was updated, reformatted, and completely rewritten by English-speaking experts from 2001 to 2003 under the direction of new owner and publisher, Gale.
However, the project was not complete, as the original series also included three additional topical volumes: Ethology (animal behavior), Ecology, and Evolution.
With the publication of Evolution, Second Edition, this topical volume has been now updated, completely rewritten, and reformatted. Yet despite the many scientific advances detailed in this book, the basic goals and perspective remain the same as those expressed by the editor of the 1976 first edition, Herbert Wendt, who said: “In the individual articles here the reader will find material he has not encountered in other works. However, science never comes to a standstill; it knows no final conclusion, and each new work brings forth new information compiled from the latest research in that field. . . . The reader can become acquainted with current theoretical thinking about evolution in reading this volume.” This volume is the next iteration in the continuing accumulation of knowledge about the origins and inner workings of our natural world.

Две книга Майкла Новачека (который нашёл овираптора, сидящего на яйцах). Написаны цветистым языком, читать сложно.

Gareth Dyke, "Living Dinosaurs: The Evolutionary History of Modern Birds"
Publisher: Wiley | 2011 | ISBN: 0470656662 | PDF | 440 pages | 52.6 MB

Living Dinosaurs offers a snapshot of our current understanding of the origin and evolution of birds. After slumbering for more than a century, avian palaeontology has been awakened by startling new discoveries on almost every continent. Controversies about whether dinosaurs had real feathers or whether birds were related to dinosaurs have been swept away and replaced by new and more difficult questions: How old is the avian lineage? How did birds learn to fly? Which birds survived the great extinction that ended the Mesozoic Era and how did the avian genome evolve? Answers to these questions may help us understand how the different kinds of living birds are related to one another and how they evolved into their current niches. More importantly, they may help us understand what we need to do to help them survive the dramatic impacts of human activity on the planet.

David E. Fastovsky, David B Weishampel, John Sibbick, "The Evolution and Extinction of the Dinosaurs, 2nd edition"
C..dge U--ty Press | 2005 | ISBN: 0521811724 | 485 pages | PDF | 279 MB

This new edition of The Evolution and Extinction of the Dinosaurs is a unique, comprehensive treatment of this fascinating group of organisms.
It is a detailed survey of dinosaur origins, their diversity, and their eventual extinction.
The book can easily be used as a teaching textbook for a class, but it is also written as a series of readable, entertaining essays covering important and timely topics appealing to non-specialists and all dinosaur enthusiasts: birds as ‘living dinosaurs’, the new feathered dinosaurs from China, ‘warm-bloodedness’.
Along the way, the reader learns about dinosaur functional morphology, physiology, and systematics using cladistic methodology - in short, how professional paleontologists and dinosaur experts go about their work, and why they find it so rewarding.
The book is spectacularly illustrated by John Sibbick, a world-famous illustrator of dinosaurs, commissioned exclusively for this book.
This is a comprehensive student textbook on dinosaurs that non-specialists will also find fascinating.
The geological context of dinosaurs is also stressed, and dinosaurs are presented in the context of contemporary plate tectonic and climatic settings.

Pleistocene mammals of North America 1980

Gary Haynes, "American Megafaunal Extinctions at the End of the Pleistocene"
Publisher: Springer | ISBN: 1402087926 | edition 2009 | PDF | 201 pages | 6.9 mb

The volume contains summaries of facts, theories, and unsolved problems pertaining to the unexplained extinction of dozens of genera of mostly large terrestrial mammals, which occurred ca. 13,000 calendar years ago in North America and about 1,000 years later in South America. Another equally mysterious wave of extinctions affected large Caribbean islands around 5,000 years ago. The coupling of these extinctions with the earliest appearance of human beings has led to the suggestion that foraging humans are to blame, although major climatic shifts were also taking place in the Americas during some of the extinctions. The last published volume with similar (but not identical) themes -- Extinctions in Near Time -- appeared in 1999; since then a great deal of innovative, exciting new research has been done but has not yet been compiled and summarized. Different chapters in this volume provide in-depth resumés of the chronology of the extinctions in North and South America, the possible insights into animal ecology provided by studies of stable isotopes and anatomical/physiological characteristics such as growth increments in mammoth and mastodont tusks, the clues from taphonomic research about large-mammal biology, the applications of dating methods to the extinctions debate, and archeological controversies concerning human hunting of large mammals.
